Why A Family Portrait Is The Best Present You Can Give
It's that time of year again...that shopping time of year. There are practical gifts and then there are the meaningful ones. That pivotal piece in a collector's dreams, that special necklace she's been dropping hints about, the memories that make a house a home...and nothing captures a memory than bringing the family together for a portrait that not only decorates the home but stops time right in it's tracks.
In this age of cell phone captures the artistry of the formal portrait is often forgotten, but set in the premiere placing of the home it can become the focal point that is most beloved.
Gifting portraits does not have to be pricey. While parents will certainly want a current wall art canvas, other family members will love having an 11x14 or even 8x10 mantel piece. 5x7 Holiday Cards with your favorite family photo printed bleed edge style fits perfectly in a standard frame for your friends to enjoy all year around.
Giving portraits doesn't have to break the bank, but like the old saying goes...they're priceless.

Definitive Marcia ~~ Fine Art Photography
They say that if you take three witnesses of a car accident and interview them, each one will have a completely different vision of the incident, a different reality for what they saw. When I am not photographing the family experience I love to show the world how it looks through my eyes. Whether a street scene, a landscape, wildlife or abstract, we all have a unique vision.
This street scene was taken in New Orleans, a city known for spirits :) Beautiful ghosts or just mannequins in a storefront...you decide. I only know that it intrigued me enough to photograph it and share it with you.

Definitive Marcia ~~ The Lifestyle Portrait
Yep, that's me. A semi self portrait shot at South Rim, Grand Canyon. Semi because I set up the shot and said when I get out there point left or right to make sure I am directly under the rain storm in the distance and please click the shutter :)
Those that know me know that as passionate as I am about photography, I am also about hiking and the outdoors and my spirituality. This image says all of that and more. What are your passions? What says this is me? How do you want the world to see you? Are you a horsewoman? Are motorcycles your passion? What makes you tick? Celebrate who you are with a Lifestyle Portrait.

Definitive Marcia ~~ The Commercial Portrait
One of the things I love to do most is work with artists, actors, musicians, creatives of all genres. This is one of my best friends and favorite singer/songwriters, David Sheehy. His EP needed a special image...rough, gritty, a testament to the title song, "Let Go". We traveled alleys and sidestreets looking for a perfect wall to watch the traffic go by and created this. A perfect pairing for a Rock Star album cover.

Definitive Marcia ~~ The Family Portrait
We all have pictures on our phones, in our computers of our family but how many do you have where the whole family, INCLUDING you are together in that same image? The family portrait has long been the symbol of personal and family history, showing the development of the family, the culture and times of the day. As much as it is a record of the generations the family portrait has been a possession of prestige holding a place of honor in the home. Today family portraits can be done anywhere, from the convenience of a studio to exotic vacation destinations. Typically, in our arid Phoenix summers, I enjoy not only photographing my family clients not only in the fields and washes of the valley, but day-tripping with them to Sedona and the cooler locations along The Rim. Consider combining the joy of taking your family to the cooler temps of Northern Arizona for a long weekend and inviting your favorite photographer along for the ride...ME!

Definitive Marcia ~~ Baby, Oh Baby!
They grow so fast...first a little bundle of cries, burbles and laughs, the next running, screeches, simple jokes and big giggles. Snapshots can sometimes catch a moment but for the moment between the moments only a concentrated portrait session will do. An outdoor portrait session will give you the variance in backgrounds to accommodate any decor...believe it or not while this portrait looks like an in-studio photograph it was in fact shot in front of a tinted glass door! And she loved playing with the glass and stone mosaic entryway in front of it. A very little girl, a moment between the moments, who could ask for more!

Definitive Marcia ~~ Puppy Love
The bond between man and dog is immeasurable and for many of us our dogs are our children, too. When we bring a dog into our home we offer shelter and care and in return receive unconditional love. The definitive dog portrait has been a part of homes for eons, showing up in Estates, Hunting Lodges, and homes throughout history. Why? Because the family dog is indeed a beloved member of the family. A portrait of your dog is not only a valued momento of a part of your family that is here and gone all too soon but an incredible and very personal piece of art.

Definitive Marcia ~~ The Portrait As Art
Pictures portray the person, portraits tell a story. And within that story is art. Not every portrait needs to show the face. Sometimes the most precious of images is the one that shows a moment that will never be there again, the soft roundness of a newborn's toes that so soon will lengthen and lean out to first toddle then run. A moment captured becomes art for the heart.

Definitive Marcia ~~ The Mommy To Be
There are rites of passage in a woman's life and none more powerful than when she gives life. Snapshots in mirrors showing the progress of a growing belly abound on Facebook and other social media sites but none are more beautiful than when your pregnancy is a depiction of art. A co-creation between photographer and mother can produce images that tell the story of life and create an heirloom for the unborn child. The Maternity Portrait is not only the capture of a moment in the mother's journey, but baby's very first portrait, too.

Definitive Marcia ~ The Wedding
In every wedding there are the moments between the moments...that images that surprise you, the ordinary seconds that become more than a moment captured, they transmute into art. I believe that every wedding album should have these, images that define that day in a way that no ordinary picture can. This is such an image...taken as the couple walked away at the end of their portrait session, walking into the rest of their lives.
